The Jacobs University is a private, non-profit GmbH, which is located in Bremen and was founded in 2001 by the City Bremen, the University of Bremen and the Rice University in Texas. The University has an international perspective, that means that you can study after your Bachelor degree at an Ivy League University like Harvard, Yale, Oxford etc.

 

It is the most international university in Germany, because more than 1300 Students from more than over 100 nations study there. They are teached by 130 professors and 268 employees for research & teaching. The classes are very small, you can generally say that 1 professor teaches about 10 students and the teaching language is English. The university is very research oriented, what means that you can do a wide variety of research in laboratories.

 

The degrees are the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor or Master of Science and the Doctorate. The university has 15 bachelor programs and 5 graduate programs.

 

You have the possibility to take part in some programs, for example the exchange programs with 26 international partner universities, where you can do a semester overseas. Another program is the Winter School. It is an annual academic event, which takes place during winter intersession in January and participants can join extra lessons. In the Summer School young people have got the chance to spent a part of their summer vacation on campus to get a taste of university life. The last program is for students from overseas, they can get a german host family and spent their free time with them to get contact to german people and culture.

 

The application requirements are the High School diploma, a SAT or ACT, an english test, an essay and questions about the Jacobs University and recommendations. But other qualifications like talent, cultural experiences and social activities are also relevant.

 

The university offers many possibilities and events for their students, like a semester overseas, advisory services, preparation for the job market and soft skill training. Career Events are also regularly organized, where the students have the chance to get internships and learn how to approach potential employers. As a result the students are ready for the global job market.
