Living on Campus

Jacobs University provides an excellent academic education and offers many opportunities outside of the classroom. As a Jacobs University student you live in one of four colleges on campus and participate in the many extracurricular activities.’

Jacobs University’s green and tree-shaded 80-acre campus provides much more than buildings for teaching and research. Jacobs undergraduate students live on campus in modern single rooms in one of four residential colleges. Each college has its own dining room, recreational lounge, study areas, and common and group meeting rooms. A Student Activities Center, various sports facilities, a cinema, a music studio, a student-run café /bar, concert venues, and an Interfaith House ensure that you will always have something interesting to do.

At the beginning of your first year at Jacobs you will be classified to share your room with a student from another country, in that way you will also get to know people from other nationalities and with another culture. You will be living in a two bedroom apartment, where you share the bathroom facilities together.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are served seven days a week; and each of the four colleges has their own server. In addition students can cook in their own floor kitchen if they would like to.

There are four colleges at Jacobs University, in your first year you can’t choose in which of them you would like to live. But after one year when you know a little bit more about the character from all of the different colleges and the other students you can choose where you would like to live and with who.

Except from eating and sleeping the colleges also organize a lot of activities for example: carving pumpkins, baking cookies, making your own Christmas cards and having theme-parties. And while having arts and sports competitions between the colleges, the students bond with their college mates.

The arts scene is a vibrant part of student life a Jacobs University. From the university choir, concerts by J-Capella to theater plays or the Spotlight show – there is something for everyone’s artistic side. Both the Art Club hosting exhibitions and the Paper Studio, where the students can record their own music, make sure that the people outside Jacobs University also can see and hear their talent.

Jacobs University provides a lot of different sportfacilities, which students can make use from in their free time. There are sports halls, a fitness center, basketball fields, tennis and volleyball courts and a rowing tank. The students also have access to the indoor pool. Jacobs University has recreational clubs – just for fun – and official teams that compete in local leagues and international tournaments.

There are more than 30 student clubs and societies that engage in social, political, academic, and entrepreneurial activities. For example the Debating Society, the Logistics Chain club and Bremen Model United Nations.
